I have had the opportunity to chaperone/witness several inpatient groups coming out to Spring Reins of Life for their first visit with the therapy horses. I have seen positive changes in their demeanor, behavior, and continued references back to the experience afterwards.

I was fortunate to be invited to witness what occurs at the Spring Reins of Life EAP therapy sessions for PTSD veterans. I am a marine veteran myself and really did not know what to expect, after the 1st session I was hooked and committed myself to helping out anyway I could.

When I learned about Operation Horse, I was curious and skeptical. Wanting better communication, and still carrying ‘stuff’ for 50+ years since Vietnam… I joined an 8-week group. What I didn’t expect was meeting the red mare, who taught me to listen to myself and others. She also pushed me to let go – and I still have. Months later, when my wife met the red mare, she leaned close and said, ‘Thank you’.

Why choose
Spring Reins of Life?

Spring Reins of Life is an Eagala Model certified program that has served groups of trauma survivors since 2012. Our experienced mental health professionals, equine professionals, and horses have served more than 3,000 trauma survivors since opening our arena gates, and it is our mission to continue. We have:

Experience

Founded in 2011, Spring Reins of Life led the way for group trauma therapy as one of the first Eagala Model programs in New Jersey.

Expertise

In 2014, SRoL was first in New Jersey to earn and maintain the Eagala Military Services Designated Program seal.

We have some great partners who are critical to our success.

How do horses help?

Equine-assisted psychotherapy is a unique solution. It doesn’t require you to express feelings or have horse experience. Horses are highly sensitive, intuitive, and empathetic animals – they also understand the need for a safe space.

Horses will meet you where you are at any moment and are always fully present, which allows us the constant chance to join them there and be guided.

This unique format avoids the stigma sometimes associated with traditional talk-therapy counseling.

Support our work

Thanks to public and private tax-deductible donations, we can offer our services for free or at a very low cost. But caring for horses requires constant supplies and human power.

There are countless ways to support Spring Reins of Life, including volunteering your time or donating supplies or money. We appreciate any form of assistance!
