One Correction to story in Link above:
At Spring Reins of LIFE we are an EAGALA Model program offering EAP and EAL. Therefore we do not offer any mounted work, activities or exercises. Hippotherapy is an incredible healing modality utilizing horses for physically and mentally handicapped clients, but it does involved being mounted aboard a horse. Hippotherapy is not something we offer at Spring Reins of Life, but we often do refer out to locations in New Jersey that do provide Therapeutic Riding, Hippotherapy and Adaptive Riding. While riding horses does indeed provide many positive and comprehensible recovery options it is not permitted within the EAGALA Model. A horse will respond to how it has been trained while under saddle, meanwhile when the horse is loose on on level ground with clients there is much more honest feedback and “aha moments” that appear with regard to the internal emotional and behavioral landscape for each client/group situation. As a mental health modality there is a rich layer of metaphors that come up as a result of the horse and clients relating and interacting with one another on the ground.
